VBAC Hospital Birth

Private Midwives were contacted by a mum-to-be to discuss having a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) at hospital for the arrival of her third child.

After previously having twin boys via a planned caesarean our client was eager to have vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) this time around for the birth of her beautiful boy, Benjamin. Our midwife, Flo Crawley,  was at hand to advise, provide care and give her the help and support she was looking for along with helping with the birth in a water/birth pool in a local hospital.

This proud mum-to-be has kindly shared her birth story experience and some great feedback on the care she received:

Testimonial:

  • I felt very grateful to have Flo support my pregnancy, the birth of my son, and my postnatal period. I had previously had identical twin boys via planned caesarean and was eager to have a VBAC this time. Flo supported me in making informed decisions about all of the various aspects of pregnancy and birth that arise, and so I felt confident and comfortable with making these choices. Flo is very passionate about her work and I always felt she was genuinely interested in me and the baby and focused on our wellbeing. She gave me all of the time I needed and I never felt rushed. She really listens carefully and would make sure I had all of my questions answered. I was lucky to go into labour naturally at 41+5 and traveled to the hospital where we had planned to have the baby.

As soon as Flo met us at the hospital I knew everything was going to be not just fine but good! I always felt safe and supported by her. She helped me every step of the way during labour, a wonderful mix of being supportive and present and also then leaving me be when I wanted to really focus. She knew exactly when I should get into the birthing pool and was there to keep me calm when I got worried during the transition between phases of labour. I was thrilled to deliver Benjamin in the water with no interventions. Being able to then hold him, feed him and bond with him uninterrupted was the highlight. Flo even managed to capture some wonderful photos of our first cuddles which I will cherish forever.

Having a VBAC isn’t always very straightforward but with Flo’s support and guidance during the pregnancy and birth, I was able to have an amazing birthing experience. I felt confident that no matter what happened, she would be there to help me navigate the situation. It was also incredible to then have her visit in the postnatal period to make sure feeding was going well and that I was recovering well, too. Having her support before, during the after the birth made a huge positive impact on my wellbeing as I always felt safe and comfortable as I knew her so well. I have no doubt that this enabled me to be relaxed and experience the birth in such a positive manner. I will always think back on Benjamin’s birth with a sense of achievement, love, joy, and gratitude.
