Antenatal Care

During pregnancy, you are advised to access antenatal care. This is to ensure that you and baby remain well and also to give you information about your choices and options for birth. We do understand that this can be both an exciting and anxious time for you, and so our aim is to give you expert care to ensure you have a positive pregnancy and birth experience. Pregnancy can be a worrying time and we want to help you feel relaxed and confident throughout.

All antenatal appointments are conducted in your own home or a mutually agreeable place. Normally you will see the same midwife throughout. Appointments are typically every 4 weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy, then every 2-3 weeks until 37 weeks of pregnancy, then weekly until birth.

  • Birth preparation discussions to include relaxation techniques and tips for creating a positive birth environment
  • Involvement of your chosen family members in your antenatal care if you wish
  • Access to your midwife via telephone/text/email in between appointments for answers to those niggling little questions that can’t wait
  • At each appointment the midwife will offer to undertake holistic assessment of mum and baby
  • Private scans and blood tests can be arranged at an additional cost if required
  • All clients are offered a customised growth chart, as recommended by The Perinatal Institute.

Harmony Test

Harmony test: When you are pregnant, your blood contains fragments of your baby’s DNA. The Harmony Test is a new test that analyses this DNA in a sample of your blood to assess the risk of Down syndrome and two other genetic conditions (Edwards syndrome and Patau’s syndrome). The Harmony test can detect over 99% of cases, compared to traditional screening tests that detect 70-80%.
